Why Choose Moroccan Zellige?
Unlike mass-produced ceramic tiles, Zellige tiles are individually handcrafted, creating subtle differences in colour, texture and surface variation.
These imperfections are what make Zellige so special. The result is a surface that reflects light beautifully and brings warmth, movement and authenticity to a space.
Every installation is completely unique.

FAQ
- What are Zellige tiles?
Moroccan Zellige tiles are traditional handmade clay tiles crafted using centuries-old techniques. Each tile is individually cut and glazed by hand, resulting in natural variation in colour, texture, thickness and surface movement. These unique characteristics are what make Zellige tiles so highly sought after for bathrooms, kitchens and feature walls.
- Are Zellige tiles 100% handmade?
Yes. Our Moroccan Zellige tiles are 100% authentic handmade using traditional methods passed down through generations of artisans. No two tiles are exactly the same, and variation is considered an essential part of their beauty and authenticity.
- Why do Zellige tiles vary in colour and texture?
Because Zellige tiles are handmade, variations in colour, texture, size and glaze are completely normal and expected. These natural imperfections create depth, movement and character that cannot be replicated by machine-made tiles.
- Can Zellige tiles be used in showers?
Yes. Zellige tiles are commonly used on bathroom walls, shower walls, splashbacks and feature walls. Their glossy glazed surface reflects light beautifully and creates a timeless handcrafted appearance.
- What is the difference between Zellige and Bejmat?
Zellige tiles are typically square and glazed, while Bejmat tiles are rectangular and often used to create patterns such as herringbone, basketweave and brick layouts. Both are handcrafted in Morocco using traditional techniques and offer the same authentic artisanal character.
- How much wastage should I allow for Zellige tiles?
We recommend allowing a minimum of 20% wastage when ordering handmade Moroccan Zellige and Bejmat tiles.
Due to the handcrafted nature of the product, additional material may be required for cuts, sorting, colour blending and installation. Ordering sufficient material upfront helps ensure the best overall result and minimises the risk of shortages later.
- What grout colour should I use with Zellige tiles
The ideal grout colour depends on the overall look you wish to achieve. Many clients choose a grout colour that closely matches the tile to create a softer, more seamless appearance, while contrasting grout can be used to highlight the individual tile shape and layout pattern.
- Can I order samples online?
At this stage, online samples are not available for our handmade Moroccan Zellige collection.
We encourage clients to visit our Sydney showroom to view the tiles in person, as colour variation, glaze movement and texture are best appreciated firsthand. Alternatively, please email us your enquiry to : sales@cerastone.com.au
- Can I return handmade Zellige tiles?
Due to the handmade nature of the product and natural variation between batches, we do not accept returns or exchanges on handmade Moroccan Zellige and Bejmat tiles. We recommend viewing the collection in our showroom prior to placing an order.
- Why are Zellige tiles more expensive than standard ceramic tiles?
Authentic Moroccan Zellige tiles are individually handcrafted rather than mass-produced. The traditional manufacturing process, artisan labour and unique character of each tile contribute to their premium value and timeless appeal.
